‹Frontfüssler› (1968/69)

On the occasion of his eightieth birthday, the Museum im Lagerhaus is devoting a solo exhibition to the Basel-based artist Walter Wegmüller (*1937). As a child of an itinerate family, he was taken from his mother and grew up in homes and as an indentured child laborer. A self-taught artist, in 1974 he attracted international attention with his „Gipsy Tarot“. He was part of the psychedelic art and Kraturock scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s and collaborated on works with H.R. Giger and Claude Sandoz. Wegmüller works in a variety of disciplines, including film and music, and has collaborated with Timothy Leary and Klaus Schulze, among others.
