Pietro Angelozzi
b. 9 Nov. 1925 in Rovetino di Rotella, Italy, d. 22 Mar. 2015 in Gossau
After his mother’s early death, Pietro Angelozzi grew up with his grandfather and one of his aunts. At the age of five he became a shepherd and later worked as a farmhand on nearby farms. He never learned a profession, and he refused to perform military service. In the mid-1960s Angelozzi moved to eastern Switzerland, where he was initially employed as a construction worker. Later he worked in a factory, and finally as a warehouse worker. His artworks revolve around seven visions that he experienced. He saw his first vision in 1932 at the age of seven, and his last at the age of forty-nine, after a magical seven times seven years. With his pictures, which repeatedly portray his experiences, Angelozzi fulfilled his divine mandate of proclaiming his visions to the world. He added explanations in Italian, German, French, English, Spanish, and even Russian, which he translated using a pocket dictionary, despite the fact that he only spoke Italian. In his visions, as in the Book of Revelation, Angelozzi saw the sky open up and glimpsed the eye of God, from which flames were cast down upon the earth. He also saw Jesus sitting to the right of God, accompanied by angels. He saw the morning star, and in his last vision in 1974, after he had moved to Switzerland, he saw a cloud of fire floating over him. His visions were always related to situations in his life, his family, and his homeland, as well as the loss of his mother and his life with his grandfather in the country-side.
